CMS is short for Content Management System. A CMS allows you to login into your website and make changes without having to install software on your computer. You only need a computer and a web browser to login to your website and make changes in predefined areas. We created this general overview video to help our clients understand the basics of a CMS. The beauty of a CMS is that you don’t have to pay to make changes to your website. You just login and make the changes yourself. There’s no monthly fee to use this service…it’s yours!
MODx is a CMS. Why do we love it? Because to achieve our goals for quality Custom Web Design, SEO, Valid XHTML/CSS, Ecommerce and User Interface Design, nothing comes close. We have been using MODx as our CMS of choice now for the last 3 years and we have found it to be extremely flexible and easy to customize for our client’s needs. Whether it’s a simple blogging site or an Ecommerce store, MODx can be configured in whatever fashion to achieve the Client’s needs.
MODx is not a traditional out-of-the-box CMS, but really is more of a Frame to build upon (or Content Management Framework). It allows you to start with a basic foundation and add onto it as you see fit. For example, we’ve had clients that just need a 5 page “brochure” website of sorts. They need a homepage, contact page, about us page, portfolio and a photo gallery. Then we’ve had clients that need really large websites to handle large amounts of videos with 500 pages that will grow larger in time. It can grow and expand as you need it to. MODx operates on PHP and MySQL.
How much will it cost to use this CMS? $0. One of the great things about MODx is that is Open Source which means it’s absolutely free…no strings attached…really! It’s been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times from their website and the community is pretty large and supportive.
