How will anyone find my site among all the others?

Too often we get inquiries from frustrated businesses who have a website, but no traffic. And sometimes an even worse case exist: they’re getting a lot of traffic (by a using pay-per-click campaign), but aren’t converting visitors to customers. This is where we come in.

Online marketing has become a huge industry and is continuing to grow at a rapid rate. The word “Google” has become a verb in our culture’s vocabulary…“Just Google it!” With so many unscrupulous individuals claiming they’ll get you listed on the first page (in just a few weeks no less!) of a search engine for your particular keyword, people are left frustrated and afraid of getting ripped off.

No, we won’t promise your website overnight success with search engines (and if any does, be careful). But with a carefully planned out strategy involving proper coding of your website (clean SEO coding), keyword analysis, proper usage of keywords in your content, and online marketing, in time you will be able to move your site up the rankings.

The key at the end of the day though is a combination of relevant content people will link to (increase linking to your website is an important factor) and getting your business noticed through online marketing (among other outlets). If you’re using tricks or hacks (commonly referred to as Black Hat) to get your website rankings, you run the risk of being ignored by search engines in the future. You may get traffic now, but for the long-term you’ll hurt yourself. But if you will think far enough in advance with quality content that people will find useful, in time your website will be a success.

So where do you begin? Online Marketing begins with first developing a quality website. By quality website we do not only mean an attractive website (although this is important), but sometimes just as important if not more important is quality coding…the unseen to the typical visitor. In most browsers (Internet Explorer for example), if you right-click on any page and choose “View Source”, you’ll see the coding that was used in designing the site. To most people, it will all look the same. But to search engines, not everything looks the same. At my619.com, we design websites with an eye toward SEO (Search Engine Optimization). We design our websites using CSS which is a type of coding that helps reduce code clutter and hence enables search engines to better search your site. Various other proven methods are used as well that can help insure that search engines can search your site fully and find relevant information.

So after I get a quality website built, then what? The next step is a marketing campaign. Without some form of marketing, no one will even know your website exists. There are many options available when it comes to marketing your site including PPC or pay-per-click. PPC essentially works in the following way. Say for example you type in a keyword like “Real Estate” in Google. What comes up? On the top and right hand column you will have “Sponsored Links”. Click on any of those links and the company that you will land on will have to pay for each click. By doing this, they are driving traffic to their website. In the same way (again, there are several other methods), you must have a marketing place in plan (which we can help you with) in order to bring traffic to your site.

What about getting my site in the non-sponsored link area? This is called organic growth and it takes time. Through the things mentioned above and given time, you can rank higher and higher in the search engines based on the factors outlined above. Obviously every business owner wants to score high in the non-sponsored link (free) area. But in using the example of “Real Estate” with Google at the time of this writing, there are over 372,000,000 results! That’s over a third of a billion results! So, if you expect to have your Real Estate website instantly score high in the organic section of Google, you might want to be a little more realistic. Now this doesn’t mean that you should not try at all, but rather be strategic and use various other techniques (like link exchanges, etc.) that can help draw traffic to your website.

I’m getting traffic to my site but their not converting to my goals (contacting me, buying my product, etc.). This problem can be equally as frustrating. This is where web analytics come into play. With great tools (and free at that!) like Google analytics and Getclicky, you’ll be able to analyze your incoming traffic. But how do I interpret the information you may ask? We’ll help you out with the process and also analyze traffic coming to your site to better assist you in making the necessary changes to help accomplish your goals for the site (buying products, contacting you, etc.).
